What is the most important lesson about money, that his career as an entrepreneur taught you?

Walter Scott, who is on the Board of Warren Buffett’s berkshire hathaway and was my mentor for 30 years, taught me that your first loss is your least loss – it means that when you have a bad Internet, out of it and move on.

What’s the best advice you ever had about money?

My mother (now 102 years old and the wisest, most positive and most savvy person I know) once told me that if you see a penny on the street, I don’t think you’re so big that You don’t have to bend over and pick it up.

What’s your favorite coin and that you like it so much?

English two pound coin – when we were in England when my children were young, my son has one as a swap for lunch not long after they were first introduced. I look back fondly on it thinking it was the big, shiny coin that he had ever seen, and say, ‘Wow, I’ll leave it’. I think now every time I see one.

What was your worst job?

I’ve never had a job, I don’t like. I’ve tried a million different things, and have always found satisfaction from the hard work, be positive and try to solve problems. I believe in the success of people in business and in life, being inseparably connected with all that they do.

What was your biggest financial mistake?

I started again in the company and someone desperately wanted to buy it. Instead of selling them all, I only sold 20pcs and company, and eventually becomes swallowed in the chest dotcom.

Are you better off than your parents?

Yes – it was their goal from the moment of my birth. My grandparents came to America from Galway all they owned into a chest (which I still have today) and they worked incredibly hard to make sure their children have a better life. My parents were the same.

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

Absolutely nothing has changed.

You ever done insurance?

Nothing that I can remember.

iTunes or Spotify?

in iTunes all the way – because Steve jobs is the epitome of someone who used both sides of their brain – that is, purely business-intelligence and raw creativity.

Which is the last thing you bought online?

My Book Total rethink from a Irish online shop, so that I could test the e-Commerce system.

Would you buy property now?

Yes, I love real estate. However, I love the earth better than I like buildings. Very few things give me as much pleasure as walking nice piece of land with a Cup of tea at dawn.

What is the most expensive, what it means to be a parent?

The amount of time that you spend worrying about things You have no control over.

Did you ever bargain?

I try not to bargain, but once in Prague, the seller offered me a pair of glasses for €30. I don’t want them, so I just said “€5”. The next thing I know I don’t need glasses, which I gave the first young person I passed.
