The new CEO of Hulu is working to capitalize on the momentum of the handmaid’s tale

When the handmaid’s tale a year ago, the Prime Minister, drama Elisabeth moss changed the hula forever. “The success of this show created awareness for hulu, which was not in the creative community and among the General population, and [he] started the chain of events that helped to advance the movement forward,” said Randy Freer. Since he took the post of Director General in October, it was his job to captain the evolution of the streaming service and prove that Emmy maids (Season 2, which premiered last week) was no accident.

It’s a challenge that freely—who will monitor his first event Hulu NewFronts on Wednesday, was ready to take over after four years “in role” as President and chief operating officer of Fox networks. “Where I was probably the happiest and had the biggest impact [of my career] when we were building and scaling regional sports network business, and eventually Fox Sports as big business,” he recalls of his early days as co-President and co-CEO, Fox sports Media group. “I had a desire to return to reality to have something and be able to, with talented people, I hope to grow it and put a stamp on it.”

To freely to work to strengthen technology, the hula platform, especially for his age of live television, which is “more complex” than a traditional on demand: “You must be great at it. There is not much margin for error”.

It also controls the transaction, as expanded partnership with Spotify, which adds a hulu Subscription to Spotify Premium package to expand subscriber base Hulu for 17 million participants in the United States for a set of proposals and TV. In the white-hot OTT space, “there is a possibility with some length to it—I’m not sure if it’s 24 months or five years—for the acquisition of subscribers,” says freer. “You should have a variety of dissemination”.

And as hulu puts a lot of money to outbid the competitors like Netflix for high-profile new projects from George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, freer sends it to Fox sports, where he negotiated the ever-increasing sports rights deals. “When we started making offers, they were probably $ 30 million. In the end, they are $3 billion and growing,” said Freer. “So he gave me some inner strength for the time, as we are now, where entertainment software is growing at such a pace that we haven’t seen before. But I hope he will not go to $ 3 billion for the show!”
