The number of claims, the United States brought against Bayer Leverkusen regained Monsanto around 8,000, as the German drug manufacturer braces for many years of bickering over an alleged risk of cancer glyphosate-based means of weed control.

Bayer previously disclosed 5,200 similar lawsuits against monsanto, which he bought in the Internet was completed in June of 63 billion dollars.

“The number of plaintiffs in both state and Federal litigation about 8 000 people as of the end of July. These numbers may increase or decrease over time, but we believe that the number is not an indication cases of the plaintiffs,” chief Executive officer of Bayer, Werner Baumann, told analysts during a conference call Thursday.

Shares of Bayer have lost more than 10pcs with Monsanto on Aug. 10 to pay 289 million dollars in damages in the first U.S. lawsuit for glyphosate on the basis of the means of destruction of weeds, such as roundup and Ranger Pro.

Legal headache adds to a number of distractions Bayer, such as the decline in consumer care sales and rebuke on production practices from the US drugs watchdog, as it seeks to strengthen its pipeline of drug development and began integration of Monsanto in its organization.

“While it’s a shame, it’s not surprising. Indeed, the court in our scenario analysis, we assumed a two-fold increase to 10,400,” said Alistair Campbell, an analyst at brokerage Berenberg.

Shares of Bayer were down 1.8 PC for 1600 GMT while the German blue-chip index rose 0.2 PC.

CEO Baumann has confirmed the opinion of Baer, that the verdict of the jury on Aug. 10 is incompatible with science-based insights of the regulators.
