Sale in B & Q owner Kingfisher rose 1.6 PC to £3.2 on a similar basis in the three months to July 31 billion (€3.6 billion).

Performance was increased due to the increase in performance related categories weather, the company said today a trading update.

In Ireland and the UK sales B and Q increased by 3.6 PC to 1 billion pounds in three months was once again dominated by high rates of categories associated with the weather.

The performance was, despite the fact that the group described as “a weak consumer backdrop in the UK”.

In France, the group reported a decrease in sales, which it said reflects the poor attendance and the consequences of the transformation related operations at its Castorama unit.

“We began our transformation two and a half years ago and move to achieve our strategic targets for the third year in a row,” Veronique Laurie, CEO of Kingfisher, said.

“At B&Q, Screwfix and chocolate depot France we have delivered good sales growth. However, the performance of Castorama France was”more difficult, and as a result we have put additional measures on the support of our full performance year in France with the benefit to pass in the second half of the year.

Gross profit for the first half of the year will be reduced by 40 BP year-on-year, with “actions to increase gross profit in the 2nd half of the year.”
