More than 100 rural branches may face closure in the retirement brokered the agreement between the post and the Postmasters Union.

It turned out that the post has received 110 applications from post offices across the country expressing interest in voluntary Retirement package.

Not planned yet forced the closure of post offices, it is clear that the post will evaluate the applications and determine where to retire can be facilitated and transactions are integrated for other local offices.

About 12 post office contractors asked permission to retire with immediate effect and this will contribute in the coming weeks.

It is the “Fianna the file” TD mark MacSharry yesterday accused the government of taking a break in the Parliament’s summer vacation “during their latest policy to decimate communities is played out.”

Mr. MacSharry represents the Sligo-Leitrim constituency where up to eight post offices facing closure in the pension program.

“In providing retirement package for long-serving postmasters and mistresses welcomed the agreement between the Postmasters Union and the post should be used to ensure the closure of post offices in rural communities across the country.

“It is now clear that the agreement concluded between the post and the Postmasters Union is a secret plan to complete more than 100 post offices across the country under the guise of providing Pension package for the pensioners post office masters,” Mr MacSharry told the Irish independent. “Varadkar vision of phasing out rural communities must be stopped. The relentless pursuit of a policy fin Gal to the Government to close rural communities is reprehensible and destroys the cultural structure of communities, which have existed for many hundreds of years.”

Among the districts facing the most closures not of Donegal, where 13 postmasters applied for retirement, and cork, where 11 post offices will be assessed for suitability.

In Meath, two post offices – Batterstown and Drumree – could potentially be closed as part of the scheme.

Speaking to the Irish independent policy Advisor Sligo Declan bree said: “the post office is an integral part of the structure of each rural community. It is the focal point, the center of activity and community centres. This is unacceptable for a post to close these post offices”.

“The plans to close rural post offices in County Sligo, including Ballinfull, Dromard, Gurteen and Monasteraden, will resist,” independent councillor added.

In April, the post has announced plans to upgrade the network of post offices after breaking a deal with the postmaster.

It included investment of 50 million euros to the growth and modernization of networks and new formats are better hours and better-located post offices.
