Recently, I spoke at the IFA County Executive meeting with my subject Header how to stretch the scarcity of feed and alternative feed options this winter.

Judging by the comments of students, not a farmer, irrespective of their loads, were touched by this drought, and the consequences will be felt in 2019.

At night and in the last few weeks, I Reaffirming the importance of an accurate feed budget, which will determine whether food is in short supply, and if so, how.

Standards of beef production in Ireland, as a rule, a budget of at least 40 PCs from the consumption of animal feed in the finishing diet, 80pc of feed weaners and lactating cows with calves and 90pc in the diet of dry cows with calves.

The balance of these fences may consist of long fibers such as straw and hay, root crops, distillery and brewing products, grains, proteins and easily digestible sources of fibre. In many cases, above the norm needs to be corrected this winter because of the obvious shortage of forage and straw.

Where silage stocks at a premium, but straw is not available, the feed contents can be split across all categories of shares.

For finishing cattle, reducing the amount of feed per 10pcs, their reception is possible, provided energy, protein and digestible fiber sources are correctly selected and balanced.

It appears that a number of merchants acted quickly and took the lead in the import of high quality straw pellets made of straw and nutritionally improved straw.

Of the 10.3 million farmers in the EU, two thirds are less than 5 ha in Size

Was just over 171 million hectares of land in the European Union (EU), used for agricultural production in 2016 – about 40 PCs of all EU land. It supports approximately 10.3 m farmers and farm managers.

I hope that this will avoid any excessive demand and import of low-quality straw deeper into the winter.

It is well documented that the amount of Irish grain and straw available from the crops of this year has decreased compared to previous years.

This is due to several factors, including a decrease in acerage grain – helped the difficult spring conditions, reducing the potential yield of all agricultural crops and considerable acreage of grain that was harvested as wholecrop.

This shortage has stressed the importance of the Irish cereals sector and how sustainable soil industry is a must for all breeders here.

Arrears in the Irish cereals are followed by imports of grain, mainly corn. The most popular form of corn found on Irish beef farms finely ground corn flour (aptly named beautiful dish in the South and yellow going to the North).

When corn is ground in this form, there are restrictions on the amount can feed about 40 PCs of the common component of the concentrate. When corn grain toast or alkaline treatment, the feed rate can be significantly increased.

Currently there is a huge demand for easily digestible sources of fibre. Beet pulp, soy hulls and citrus pulp were used throughout the drought order to help meet the consumption of animal and extend the grass supply, particularly dairy farmers.

Now there is concern that there will be a shortfall of supply of these forages during the winter months. Limited supply led to a huge increase in the prices of the unlikely place where they are currently trading above the prices of cereals, such as barley, corn and wheat.

Productivity of animals

A decrease in digestible fiber available, balancing rations, without compromising diet quality, rumen health and animal performance will be a problem.

The use of high quality rumen buffer and yeast to compensate for the lack of digestible fiber. I hope we will not witness a situation when low energy, poorly digestible feed ingredients, which are anti-nutritional will become the norm. I noticed the husks of sunflower, rice bran, husk feed grains, feed wheat, palm kernel and terrible began to take a more Prominent position on the bills.

In the markets of feed protein is moderately stable in comparison with the energy and digestible fiber source. Soybean meal, on the upper end of the market prices, increased by about 10pc since the beginning of the year. This in turn has led to an increase in prices of other protein feeds such as rapeseed meal, distillers and corn gluten.

Unfortunately, which were widely available for cattle finishers to stretch or replace the feed, such as potatoes, vegetables and foods are also very difficult.
