Fast food giant McDonald’s has hit back at Supermac in the last round of European brand war between the two firms.

The American firm filed a fresh 40-page presentation with the intellectual property office of the EU (EUIPO) as it seeks to prevent the Irish food chain Supermac from expanding their brand across Europe. Promoting your business in the beginning of this year for the registration of the Supermac’s brand in Europe, Galway, in 1978 she acted as Supermac in Ireland without any complaints.

However, in his rebuttal, McDonald said that the facts of the history of Supermac and allegedly long-standing coexistence of McDonald’s and Supermac and their trademarks in Ireland “unrelated” to the current case. American giant also claims that the argument Supermac is opposition to McDonald’s for the Irish brand is potentially malpractice, “McDonald’s” number one in the fast food industry in Europe – “can’t thrive”.

Says that McDonald’s still exists a likelihood of confusion between the two brands, and that a Galway firm has not provided any persuasive arguments to counter this and asked EUIPO to abandon the use of Supermac.

Yesterday, Supremo Supermac’s Pat McDonagh said he remains confident that the firm will be successful. “Absolutely, if logic and common sense will prevail. We need to be successful. We are waiting for the decision EUIPO”.
