The operator of the petrol station Maxol decided to build housing instead of the gas station in one of its key sites in Dublin.

Irish Petrol retailer has applied for planning permission to build 29 houses on this site it owns in the village of Saggart in South West Dublin.

The plan follows a similar offer Maxol on the construction of a new five-story, 90-unit apartment house on the site of a prominent gas station works in sandymount Dublin 4.

This proposal will see a petrol station and a nearby car dealership was demolished.

Maxol – which belongs to the family McMullan is one of the largest retailers of gasoline in the country, with 230 service stations, half of them belongs to the company.

Chief Executive Brian Donaldson said earlier that the company plans to diversify to protect themselves from the impact of electric cars on the forecourt business.

Maxol has made significant progress in raising food business services and also created a “fighting Fund” for potential acquisitions.

The boom in property prices due to the housing shortage, likely caught the eye of a gasoline seller. New data last month showed that property continues to grow at double-digit pace with prices at the national level, an increase of 12.4 PC in may of last year. Warning the slowdown in the growth of prices for residential property in Dublin was implemented with prices up to 10.7 PC in may, compared with 13pc in April.

In case of approval by South Dublin County Council, Drogheda scheme will see the reconstruction of the pub and its change of use.

Plans for the construction of four apartment buildings also include two retail units.

Local authorities have agreed to allow the application to turn part of the land it owns itself, in exchange for providing some social housing on the site.
