Renowned expert labor relations Kieran Mulvey was appointed a non-Executive Director of independent news and media, starting today.

He was nominated to the Board of Denis O’brien, the largest shareholder of it and so it cannot be considered an independent non-Executive.

Mr. Mulvey was the General Commission on labor relations Director, and was formerly head of the labour relations Commission for 25 years until his retirement in 2016.

He served on the councils and in the private sector, including governing boards, University College Dublin, Independent Commission for radio and television and the national economic and social Council.

Currently, he is Director of the University of Dublin DAC, Chairman of the Adare human resources, the Chairperson of sport Ireland, and Trustee/Treasurer of a registered charity, the international Foundation for the protection of human rights defenders. Mr. Mulvey does not hold, and not in the last five years held, a directorship in any other publicly quoted companies.

As him the largest shareholder Denis O’brien at one point there were three nominee Directors in the Board of Directors, including former Chairman of INM Leslie Buckley and businesswoman Lucy Gaffney and Paul Connolly. However, after the resignation of Paul Connolly in may of last year, it was not O’brien nominee on the Board.

OSI is also now looking for another candidate for appointment to the position of independent non-Executive Directors, compliance with corporate governance standards. The company said it hopes to make another announcement in this regard in the coming months.

The appointment of Mr. Mulvey said the Chairman of the Institute of management, Murdoch MacLennan.

“I would like to welcome Kieran to the Council of IVM. Its wide relations of production and the experience of doing business will significantly increase the caliber of our Board, as we face up to the many problems that face us,” Mr. McLennan said.
