President ELISA Jo Healy said that the time has come for the implementation plan to convert the recent announcements on renewable energy into action.

Mr. Healy spoke at the energy in agriculture 2018 College today Gurteen, who said he testifies to the great interest among farmers, but they require certainty in their plans.

Joe Healy said he recently published an extensive draft of the new Congress on environmental issues and climate action Minister Denis Naughten places that he described as a welcome emphasis on community participation in future projects and the use of renewable energy sources, although he said that does not recognize the additional supports required for categories such as farm-scale projects.

He said that the move away from preferential tariff model for auction-type scheme may ultimately benefit from more large-scale projects, in particular wind, with the exception of small and medium scale farming community projects, where many alternative technologies that can be deployed.

“This will not create a balanced mix of energy sources that will further add to the interests of the community, as well as the security constraints of Ireland’s energy supply.”

The IFA President said farmers forestry offer significant potential to meet the growing demand for biomass in developing the bioenergy sector.

Mr. Healy said that around 40 PC of the total forest area in Ireland is owned and operated by farmers, most of the plantations achieve production in the coming decades.

Projections indicate that wood production will more than double by 2035, to 7.9 million m3, almost the entire increase in the flow for farmers.

Last year was difficult for agriculture. This year is even more complicated. As I write this, droughts are putting farmers under severe pressure. The last thing on your mind, makes the application of forestry Grant.

Joe Healy said that if the generation of bioenergy will be massive, the biomass must be affordable and competitive cost.

“At the moment our biomass market the informal and often supply and demand are not the same.

“To ensure uninterrupted supply and strengthening of control over the quality of fuel, IFA is the network of centralized shopping centers of biomass, regional service stations that provide high quality fuel wood, managed by producer organisations forest.”

He said the centralized system will allow improving control over procurement process; the biomass can be stored in the center and processed during the winter season, when fuel demand is high, and for the working conditions in the woods can be tricky.

“Support for the creation of a network of logistics and trade centers biomass offers farmers significant new business opportunities for rural communities not only biomass, but it’s warm and carpentry work,” he said.
