Hna, a Chinese conglomerate unwinding of global acquisitions, is in talks to sell $2.2 billion (€1.9 billion) stake in Dublin-headquartered jet lessor Avolon for the Japanese ORIX Corporation.

Oryx is discussing the purchase of the entire stake in Avolon 30pcs from Phoenix to Shenzhen-listed Bohai capital unit, according to sources.

The transaction in exchange for a stake in Avolon, which was co-founded and headed by Claire native Dómhnal Slattery, can be declared only this week.

Final agreement was reached, and there is no certainty that the negotiations will lead to a deal, it’s understandable.

Avolon-the world’s third-largest lessor of aircraft. It was founded by Mr Slattery, chief financial officer Andy Cronin and commercial Director John Higgins.

They provided more than $7 billion in supporting private investment companies and banks, including Cinven and cvc and oak hill capital partners to launch the lessor in 2010.

Child of GNI by Bohai Leasing has completed the acquisition of Avolon in 2016, in a deal placed at $7.6 billion (€6.5 billion) enterprise value by the owner.

Avolon was posted on the new York stock exchange in just a few months before the Bohai offered to buy it.

GNI has already lost more than $17 billion (€14.6 billion) of assets this year, after years of the acquisition, which saddled it with one of the largest corporations in China debt loads.

The group has spent billions of dollars in recent years buying stakes in the business, for example, the Hilton Group and Deutsche Bank.
