Germany awaits from the Commission the rule regarding the fact that farmers can get the benefits of income tax to help offset the effects of drought on the crop this year, the weekly ‘WirtschaftsWoche’ reported, citing unnamed German press-Secretary of the Ministry of agriculture.

The German government first introduced measures in late 2016, but this is potentially rules EU rules on state aid.

The European Union last week expanded assistance to farmers as extreme heat and drought reduces grain production to its lowest in five years.

Farmers will be able to obtain a portion of their direct payments and rural development earlier than usual, to help mitigate the effects of drought this year, the European Commission said on Thursday.
