The US technology giant genesys can look at the future of the Irish acquisitions and has doubled the headcount at its new operation in Galway Altocloud, according to entrepreneur Barry O Sullivan.

In San Francisco, a technology provider of call-center bought Altocloud from dragons ‘ den stars in March. O’sullivan initially agreed to stay on part time to help the two companies integrate, but he was elected to the Board of Directors of the company genesys to help with its global expansion.

The appointment fees to $1.4 billion a year company helps later O’sullivan’s desire to turn Galway into a global center for artificial intelligence (AI), he said “Sunday independent”.

“Genesys very much sees Ireland as a strategic source of innovation and talent,” said O’sullivan, adding that although he could not discuss specific proposals, there were a lot of “very interesting” companies in the developing sector of Ireland AI.

“There are a lot of good work going on in Ireland in the field of data science and artificial intelligence because of the quality of scientific research centres in universities,” he said.

Altocloud uses software and machine learning to make it easier for consumers and businesses to communicate. Since the acquisition of genesys, workforce Altocloud has doubled to 40.

“It’s really high-quality jobs, and it shows that we can make the talent here in Galway. We have many openings for more and we are working with IDA on long-term prospects.”

O’sullivan said that he could not disclose details of these discussions in advance of the agreement, but that he was expecting a big increase in sales Altocloud product in 2019, when the integration with genesys completed.

“It’s been a whirlwind since the acquisition. We are expanding the team. I signed up to help with the integration of part-time, but it is an opportunity to work on the genesys Board is very interesting.”

O’sullivan, who rose to fame when he spent $ 4 billion division of Cisco Systems, is also taking on a new role as senior consultant in a private company direct investments permira, which owns 50pc of the company genesys and $33 billion in capital.

“I increased my Department at Cisco about $200 million in revenue to $4 billion, and I hope I will be able to help genesys to scale to this level of ambition.”
