Sony has launched what may be his last attempt to challenge Samsung, Apple and Huawei at the top of the pile smartphone.

Its new smartphone XZ3 was first-class, six-inch screen and curved glass from the side of the device as the Samsung models.

But it’s still disappointing.

Despite 4K video recording HDR and ‘full HD’ slow-motion rate of 960 frames per second, it has only one 19-megapixel camera on the back. This means that there is no optical zoom or telephoto lens, unlike any other smartphone on the market.

Even budget phones are now offering dual-lens capability, with the recently announced HTC U12 plus (€349), providing a wide and telephoto lens. The current flagship device of Huawei, P20 Pro has three separate camera at the rear.

Updated features of the phone over its unremarkable predecessor XZ2 to include a little more than 6-inch screen, which is OLED display instead of LCD. This means better colors and blacks.

But despite the introduction of curved glass that brings the display all the way on the side of the device (something Samsung did four years ago), it still has the ‘chin’ and ‘head-on’ headband. It is compatible with screen devices that are currently released by Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, LG and other major manufacturers of phones.

Sony seeks to advertise some new characteristics, which he ascribes to artificial intelligence implementation, including side meaning’ a trigger that opens a mini menu of frequently used applications and smart start’ feature that turns the camera if you hold the phone horizontally in front of his face.

Under the hood it has a powerful (but not superior to other flagship devices) 845 Snapdragon processor and 4 GB of RAM. There are also 64 GB of storage, which is now the minimum for a high-end smartphone.

It’s enough to make you think that it’s better than S9 and Samsung, Huawei P20 Pro or iPhone?

It seems a difficult task.

In XZ3 is expected to retail for 800 euros when it goes on sale next month.
