The website donedeal.t. E. analyzed more than 5000 vacancies for bales placed on the website in June and July this year compared to the same period in 2017.

The study shows that the silage being the most dramatic growth, with prices rising to 31pc from €20.24 bale 12 months ago the Euro is now 29.22 bale. Meanwhile, hay 18pc to € 27.23 for the same period.

In regional terms, the sharpest increase in prices was observed in Leinster, where prices bale (silage and hay) increased by 26pc compared to the same period in 2017.

The price of straw also soared on average from €16.35 bale in June and July 2017 EUR 24.02 now, an increase of 32pc in 12 months.

Speaking about the research of Adam Ferguson from the website donedeal.t. E. said that this shows how farmers are currently in crisis.

“This is a crisis for farmers. Spring snow is accompanied by severe drought has made the production of hay, straw and silage is extremely difficult, and we see it now in these rising prices,” he said.
