David Jason said Del boy would have supported leaving the UK and see it as a way to earn money.

The veteran actor, 78, was playing the rogue Derek ‘Del boy’ Trotter in the classic sitcom only fools and horses from 1981 to 2003.

Together with his younger brother Rodney, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst, he has developed numerous get-rich-quick schemes that rarely paid off.

In an interview with the Sun, sir David said that the character would be in favor of a UK withdrawal from the European Union, because he would be able to make money from it.

Sir David said: “when we are talking about a British exit from the EU, cases just think, ‘are we going to do this, Rodders’.

“One day he will become something of a whipping for people who want to leave, and then the next day it will be something of flogging for people who want to stay.

“For him, he could figure out a way to use it.

“The big political question about staying or leaving he’s not interested, he just thinks, ‘how we earn from it, Rodders?’.”

Sir David prepares to travel along the West coast of the US by road, rail and air the documentary David Jason: planes, trains and automobiles.

A train Buff who has a pilot’s license and once mixed acting with work as a garage mechanic, will leave for a month-long journey, which will be broadcast on Comedy channel gold.

The documentary will be aired in 2019.
