IFA President Joe Healey led the tribute to Richie Flynn, who died suddenly last Friday.

Richie worked in the IFA for 27 years, joining in 1991 when he took on the role of our press service. In 1996 he moved to our section on aquaculture, where he represented the farmers around the coast for the last 22 years.

He started with salmon farming and the Irish shellfish Association has been added to the IFA in 1990-ies.

Richie was the first President of the Advisory Board of the EU Aquaculture, which was established in 2016.

He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the marine Institute; was Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the EU aquaculture from 2001 to 2011 he was President of the European Federation of shellfish from 2012 to 2016.

Jan Feenstra, who worked closely with Richie as President of the Association of Irish salmon producers’, he said he will always remember him for his faithfulness, and his fearless work in the field of fish farming.


President ELISA Jo Healy said that everyone was very shocked by the news that Richie died early Friday morning.

“Ritchie was a respected colleague and someone who was fully dedicated to his work in ELISA. His commitment to farmers throughout his working life, was unshakable”.

Richie survived his wife trish and their two children Liam and Róisín, mother Helena and his sister Sinead”.

In deference to the National Bureau of IFA in the centre of the Irish farm and the regional office Roscommon Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon & Longford will be closed on Wednesday.
